Crash Sends Car Into Woods, Shuts Down Traffic On Taconic State Parkway In Westchester

Traffic on the Taconic State Parkway in Northern Westchester was temporarily shut down following a collision that sent one car crashing into the woods and left a driver trapped inside their vehicle.

The crash happened on the northbound Taconic State Parkway in Valhalla by the Legion Drive bridge.

The incident happened on Wednesday, Aug. 23, when members of the Valhalla and North White Plains Fire Departments as well as Valhalla VAC responded to the northbound Taconic State Parkway in the area of the Legion Drive bridge in Valhalla for a reported crash. 

Upon arriving at the scene, crews found that one damaged vehicle was in the middle of the roadway while a second car had veered off into the woods. 

Firefighters then began working to free the occupant of one of the vehicles who was unable to exit while also shutting down the northbound lanes of the parkway. 

After freeing the driver and transferring them to first responders for medical treatment, firefighters remained at the scene until the vehicles were towed away.
